Job Description

BrightContext is a technology startup in the Washington, DC area that is reinventing what it means to watch TV with its web and mobile-based platform. We want someone who really wants to grow their career and will be a key contributor in a fast-growing early-stage company.

Position Requirements

In order to be considered for this position you must:

• Be truly passionate about front-end development – and be the type of person that in their free time would end up building a Facebook-Google mashup in the morning, and spend the afternoon playing with the latest mobile web frameworks.
• Be a bona fide JavaScript expert with at least two years of experience where advanced JavaScript work was the primary focus.
• Have at least one year of experience with jQuery and be able to compare it to other frameworks like Dojo or MooTools or even Ext JS/Sencha.
• Be fluent in development best practices and produce tightly organized semantic HTML/HTML5 and CSS.
• Know what Comet is and be able to describe implementing web streaming vs. long polling.
• Know what MVC is and know the pros and cons of applying it to thick-client JavaScript development.
• Be knowledgeable of UX design principles and have a user-centered mindset in developing applications.
• Have experience optimizing web pages for high-traffic performance.
• Have at least dabbled in ActionScript/Flash.
• Be comfortable working in JSP.
• Possess a high level of intelligence, creativity, and energy.
• Enjoy hard work and pay relentless attention to detail.
• Have great communication skills.
• Be comfortable and effective working in a dynamic, informal entrepreneurial setting.
• Have a BS degree in something technical (IS,CS, Engineering).

Though not required, favorable consideration will be given to candidates that:
• Have built at least one mobile app, possibly with PhoneGap or also leveraging jQuery Mobile or jQTouch.
• Have visual/UX design experience and proficiency with tools such as Photoshop.
• Have television industry experience.
• Have worked for large Internet companies such as Facebook, Twitter or Google.
