Company
BrightContext is a technology startup in the Washington, DC area that is reinventing what it means to watch TV with its web and mobile-based platform.
Job Description
We are looking for an exceptional front-end developer with both native app mobile development and web app development experience to join our product team. This person will collaborate with a group of elite software engineers to create screens, modules, APIs, and libraries. Since we’re a startup, everyone wears a lot of hats. So this position will also involve a wide array of other tasks such as: evaluating usability, requirements analysis, quality assurance, and documentation. In addition to front-end development expertise, we are looking for a smart, rounded technologist and problem solver. We are looking for someone that learns quickly, tends to do a great job in whatever they do, wants to get a lot of experience, welcomes responsibility, enjoys a diverse range of tasks, is fun to work with, and wants to be a key contributor in a fast-growing early-stage company.
Position Requirements
In order to be considered for this position you must:
- Be truly passionate about front-end development – and be the type of person that in their free time would end up building a Facebook-Google mashup app in the morning, and then spend the afternoon trying out a new idea in OpenGL.
- Be a fast learning native iOS app developer (iPad and iPhone) with at least one year of experience working in Objective-C, Cocoa/UIKit and iOS SDK 4.
- Have experience interfacing with JSON or XML Rest APIs from a native iOS app.
- Have experience building and launching an app in the Apple app store.
- Have past experience in building traditional, advanced web-based systems using JavaScript, jQuery and HTML/HTML 5.
- Have experience with web-based mobile app development, possibly with PhoneGap or Titanium or just leveraging jQuery Mobile or jQTouch.
- Know what MVC is and other common design patterns.
- Have experience doing enterprise level development using source control such as SVN or GIT.
- Be knowledgeable of UX design principles and have a user-centered mindset in developing applications.
- Possess a high level of intelligence, creativity, and energy.
- Enjoy hard work and pay relentless attention to detail.
- Have great communication skills.
- Be comfortable and effective working in a dynamic, informal entrepreneurial setting.
- Have a BS degree in something technical (IS,CS, Engineering).
Though not required, favorable consideration will be given to candidates that:
- Have visual/UX design experience and proficiency with tools such as Photoshop.
- Have experience developing with OpenGL.
- Have television industry experience.
- Have worked for large Internet companies such as Facebook, Twitter or Google.
